
Apple could finally join Samsung and Huawei in the market for foldable smartphones with Galaxy Z Flip3/Z Fold3 and the newly released P50 Pocket with its own foldable iPhone by next year.
Reports about a foldable iPhone have surfaced before which points out that Apple is working on foldable prototypes. Back in September 2020, it was reported that Samsung had provided foldable display samples for testing and there have also been reports that Apple is working with LG display.
Apple patent filings show that its R&D is on crack-resistant foldable displays and multiple reports about internal durability tests related to the foldable device have surfaced.
Ross Young is a display analyst and known personality who provides accurate insights had shared his thoughts about the timeline on when Apple could possibly introduce its foldable iPhone. He mentioned as early as next year but also added that 2024 is a more viable timeframe to expect the foldable device. The same timeframes were also suggested by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and global technology research firm Omdia. Bloomberg latest reports also mentioned that Apple is in “early work” on a foldable iPhone but no other development details beyond the foldable screen.
After 3 iterations Samsung has finally solved the issues for its foldable Galaxy devices which will make you think if Apple could have it all addressed and tested for next year’s launch. The smartphone trend is slightly going upside in the foldable devices with some major brands introducing a foldable version of their flagship devices. It’s also in line with how people are using their devices, larger screen but can be folded and easily fits their pocket. If the foldable iPhone will be available by next year, will you buy it?
