Huawei has announced the availability of HUAWEI CLOUD AI-assisted diagnosis for COVID-19. HUAWEI CLOUD in collaboration with Huazhong University of Science & Technology and Lanwon Technology to develop and launch an AI-assisted quantitative medical image analysis service for COVID-19.
The COVID-19 ai-scanner utilizes HUAWEI CLOUD’s AI technologies such as “computer vision and medical image analysis, the service can automatically, quickly, and correctly output CT quantification results to imaging and clinical doctors, alleviating the shortage of imaging doctors who can accurately diagnose COVID-19, relieving the pressures of quarantines, and reducing the heavy workloads of doctors. “
Huawei’s Ascend series chips were utilized to accurately deliver fast and accurate diagnosis than manual quantitative image evaluation, mainly improving efficiency. The National Health Commission of China has included this CT features in its standard diagnosis procedure. It also helps in determining the severity of COVID-19, improving case confirmation and acting on which treatment and drugs to apply.
Technically, the AI-image scanner developed for COVID-19 is based on HUAWEI CLOUD EIHealth-medical image analysis platform. It utilizes the AI Ascend cluster service and the ModelArts one-stop AI development and management platform. The service is providing powerful support for universities and hospitals with massive AI computing power. These services are free for various organizations and institutions mainly for scientific research.
Even if the pandemic ends, (we hope really soon) HUAWEI CLOUD will be offering the AI-scanner for designated hospitals for free. And they are targeting to keep this service updated with diagnosis assistant for other lung diseases i.e. pneumonia, lung cancer for early assessment and efficient treatment.
