If you can remember, last year the 802.11ac Quantenna chipset has been outed and as expected will be available on Asus RT-AC87 Dual-band Wireless-AC2400 Gigabit Router.
The RT-AC87 is the first ever gigabit router that’s capable of 802.11ac Wi-Fi speed of 1.73Gbps on the 5GHz frequency band while it can also support 802.11n speeds on the 2.4GHz band. Under-the-hood it’s powered by a Quantenna’s QSR1000 4×4 Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) chipset that makes the ultimate WiFi performance possible.
The gigabit router will boosts four external antennas and will utilize Universal Beamforming to maximize its wireless range, thus, improving signal strength-performance even for older 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi clients –don’t you worry it’s compatible to all existing WiFi clients. However, you need to have same high-speed chipset to enjoy its top 1.73Gbps speed.
Notable security features of RT-AC87 is its AiProtection which uses Trend Micro protection technology. It filters malware and other malicious intrusions before they reach connected clients. It’s also a flexible router that can act as a personal cloud server via connected USB storage device which can be easily manage from a web interface and AiCloud 2.0.
The Asus RT-AC87 router will be available in North America for estimated starting price of $270.
