There’s a limitation when upgrading your ultrabook’s solid state drive(SSD) and that’s the drive capacity as well the drive size which is normally at 2.5-inch drive bay. The standard for ultrabooks uses thinner 1.8-inch mSATA SSDs however, most of the time the problem will be the drive’s capacity which most of the time doesn’t have the larger capacities. Fortunately, Samsung had just outed its 840 EVO SSD which is claimed to be first ever 1TB 1.8-inch mSATA SSD.
The 840 EVO will be in a smaller pack mSATA chassis but still it has same core components. The read/write speed is claimed to be 540 MB/s and 520 MB/s, respectively. The latest compact SSD will also be available in 120, 250 and 500GB volumes –if ever, you don’t need the 1TB capacity.
As of the moment, Sammy is still in secrecy of the pricing but most likely you can have the new mini-SATA SSD later this month.
