Beside from its generous built-in codec to play almost all video formats, the VLC Media Player is portable enough that you can store it on your media drive for any situation. In a report by The Next Web citing TorrentFreak, the VLC media player may soon boasts BitTorrent streaming feature.
Accordingly, TNW points a group of supporters had pledged $10,000 to look for developer to get the file sharing capabilities within VLC Media Player.
“As reported by TorrentFreak, the group of supporters have spoken with VLC’s creators, VideoLAN, and posted a new project on freelance coding marketplace Elance, offering $10,000 to developers that can commit to the project and outfit the application with the features that it would need,” —TNW.
Another, interesting feature will be the support for Torrent files or Magnet links, allowing users to “start watching any media files within VLC after a minimal delay.”
VideoLAN’s Jean-Baptiste Kempf said that developers had submitted codes to address such functionality, however, the quality is questionable pointing to BitTorrent current modules which are not that optimized yet. They wanted to have high quality results in terms of code and maintenance as they have limited project resources.
The BitTorrent module for VLC player could be a very interesting project and we can predict user spike when this additional feature gets official.
