There had been reports that the new iPad’s temperature becomes too hot after a couple of hours of usage. It was noted that it is hotter than the temperature increase of its predecessor the iPad 2. Consumer Report’s decided to see or rather feel for them selves the alleged heat emission.
It was reported that the heating is concentrated in a specific area where the processor is located. After the game Infinity Blade II was left running for 45 minutes in a room temperature at 22°C(72°F), the iPad achieved 46.6°C(116°C). On the other hand, the iPad 2 just managed an increase of up to 39.4°C (103°F).
It was also said that the new iPad won’t charge its battery while playing a massive game like the Infinity Blade. When not in game mode, the iPad resumes charging. People’s opinion varies about the heat issue. Some say that it’s bearable while others claim that the heat was “uncomfortable”. Apple on the other hand claims that the new iPad’s temperature is well within its thermal specs:
“The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications,” Apple representative Trudy Muller, told The Loop. “If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare.”
