For all of the electric-car fans out there here is a treat for you. Tesla Motors has finally unleashed the prototype of its latest Model X sport crossover that will go on production in late 2013.
The new Tesla Model X is based on the same Tesla Vehicle Platform (TVP) used in the Tesla Model S and is said to combine the best of an SUV with the benefits of a minivan. Its low center of gravity provides more agility and better road handling. It comes standard in rear-wheel-drive architecture with two battery pack versions including a 60 or 85 kWh battery allowing for a range of up to 300 miles (for the 85 kWh model).
But Tesla also offers an optional Dual Motor all-wheel-drive which increases torque by 50% and allows for all-road and all-weather capability. With the all-wheel-drive form, the Tesla Model X Performance version can sprints from 0-60 mph in less than 5 seconds.
The new Tesla Model X can accommodate up to seven passengers. The driver will benefit from the elegant driver seat which features a Tesla Touchscreen 17-inch, high-resolution, multi-touch display and a high-resolution speedometer right in front. While rear passengers will enjoy the roomy interior after entering the car using the Falcon Doors which open up and out even in tight parking place.
Delivery of the Tesla Model X will start in early 2014 with price comparably similar to the Model S.
