Facebook March 15 shutdown rumor spreading like wildfire

Normally, a rumor like this shouldn’t be bothered paying attention to, but given that it’s now spreading like wildfire, we should get the facts straight. Faux news site Weekly World News posted an article stating that the social-networking site is shutting down come March 15 due to… the stress that is has put on Mark Zuckerberg… That’s right, it’s all allegedly due to stress. More on this after the cut.

Here’s a part of the alleged article:

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Managing the site has become too stressful.

“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”

Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts.

“After March 15th the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business.”

In light of all these, Facebook Director of Corporate Communications Larry Yu stated that this is all false.

“We didn’t get the memo about shutting down and there’s lots to do, so we’ll just keep cranking away like always.”

Time and time again, before spreading any rumors, please verify the validity of the source material first. But then again, as long as people would keep believing, rumors like these would continue to spread. Honestly, why would Facebook even stop doing its thing?
