New A/V Cable Standard HDBaseT Says Goodbye to Pricy HDMI cable

Consumer electronics manufacturers has finally come up to promoting a single or shall we say “standard” cable “to replace multiple cables and connectors in the home entertainment environment”. The standard is called HDBaseT™ technology based on standard CAT5e/6, now, HDMI is out of the story.

HDBaseT Alliance was formed to promote and commercialize the HDBaseT™ technology, enabling a single LAN cable to replace multiple cables and connectors in the home entertainment environment, HDBaseT is optimized for video application and can connect all the entertainment devices at home by providing the 5Play convergence of uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals.
Members supporting HDBaseT technology will play a part in defining the future of multimedia transmission and data communication in the consumer electronics and content provider industries.
The standard is expected to be adopted by 2011.
