AMD rolls out five new Six-Core Opteron chips

AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) has just unveiled five new server chips that add to the company’s line of Six-Core Opteron processors that are hyped with low power consumption and boost performance than the current models.

Three of the new five chips are manufactured using a 45-nm process that consumes up to 55 watts on average that are notable on since the current models consumes up to 75 watts and 105 watts.

Here is the list of the five new additions:

The three models below is under the price range US$455 to $1,514 each, in 1,000-unit quantities.

  • 2GHz Six-Core Opteron 2423 HE
  • 2.1GHz Six-Core Opteron 2425 HE
  • 2.1GHz Six-Core Opteron 8425 HE

AMD also added two new server chips on the line up of Six-Core Opteron. Both chips consume up to 105 watts and priced at $2,649 and $1,019, respectively.

  • 2.8GHz Six-Core Opteron SE 8439
  • 2.8GHz Six-Core Opteron SE 2439

Vendors like IBM and Dell are gearing up their servers with this new low power processor chips from AMD that is expected by coming months, apparently HP has already move ahead with its ProLiant G6 systems equipped the new Six-Core Opteron chips.
