This countdown have started just a couple of weeks ago on April 10, interesting twist of the countdown is the promotional give away $10,000 in iTunes credit, a 17″ MacBook Pro, a 32GB iPod touch, and a Time Capsule, the total retail value for which is $13,746. Apple has not told who won those prizes, but promises to display the winner soon on the same countdown website.
This one billionth downloads goes to expectation, as it’s been projected with an average download of 5.1 million per day. Additionally, during the Q2 financial call yesterday, Apple’s execs told that they mere “hours” away from the billionth download.
My salute to all developers and to all who supported this event, congratulations to whoever won the Apple kit and for more, better applications in the future.
Update:
Connor Mulcahey, a 13-year-old from Weston, Connecticut, downloaded the lucky billionth application from Apple’s App Store, winning an Apple prize bundle including a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod Touch, and a MacBook pro, according to an Apple release.
