China Unicom has only signed 5,000 iPhone users since it was officially launched late last week. I don’t know if you have been surprised by the outcome, but I think we have already assumed this upset. There are few reasons on apparent poor performance of the Chinese iPhone, mainly is the tough competition over the grey marketed iPhone and its crippled version.
Despite iPhone’s poor performance, China Unicom Chairman Chang Xiobing remains confident that it will regain its market stand with its 3G network roll out that has already signed up 1 million customers. "We are satisfied with iPhone sales so far, and we aim to have an additional 1 million new 3G subscribers each month in the near future," he said.
I’ve seen lots of fake phones coming from China, almost all brands. Now do you think would anyone dare to grab the much expensive and crippled Chinese version iPhone? Plus the fact that there are lots of imported unlocked fully-functional iPhone available there, that I know much Chinese would be interested in.

That's ridiculous if they don't like original phone. Well, as I have observed, if people talking about fake gadgets or any short span, that's of course they will say ""Oh because this gadget came from china. I don't know if that rumored is true.

The Chinese need to stop trying to use other peoples technology and turn it into crap. Why can't they get their act together and create their own products to compete instead of stealing other people's work.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking why not formulate their own craft and compete and not steal other ideas and design. If they can replicate or pirate other design I'm sure they can innovate or invent their own iPhone or whatever unique gadgets it might be.

I don't get it why Chinese are only specialized in designing fake things. I don't think so people would prefer to buy this fake product at higher cost with no guarantee. Manufacturer is hoping to have 1 million new 3G subscribers each month, strange.

I'm not surprised... I've read several articles about how Apple is overcharging for their products. Many people these days can't justify spending so much on an iphone when they can get a very good Chinese alternative for a fraction of the price. The China brand phones are popular here in the Philippines as well.

But you cannot say that all products in Chine are just a copy. They have also their own innovations. But I think it's anyway easier just to copy a product and to sell it for cheaper price than the orignial one as to invent a new product. And the most people want to make easy money.

I'm not surprised at this, the fact is that iPhones are overpriced. But as with any innovative product such as this they can stick any price tag they want on it and people somewhere will pay for it. Maybe this is a sign that things are changing and people wont put up with these crazy prices anymore.
